Rheometers measure the rheological properties of materials, how they flow and deform in relation to applied force.
Rheometers have wider capabilities than viscometers, which are limited to measuring the viscosity of fluids under certain conditions. A rheometer, on the other hand, can measure both viscosity and elasticity under a wide range of conditions.
There are various types of rheometer:

• Torque
• Capillary
Rheometers can test for the following properties:
• Yield stress
• Viscoelasticity
• Extensional viscosity
• Creep compliance
• Thixotropy
• Stress relaxation
They are ideal for testing complex types of non-Newtonian fluids, including plastics and pseudoplastics.
They have a broad range of industrial and quality control applications, testing materials such as paints and inks, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, oil and petroleum, and food and drink.
